ABOUT HOSTA
Mission Statement: The mission of the Historic Oaks Stewardship Alliance (HOSTA) is to coordinate efforts to protect, enhance and perpetuate the rural historic agricultural village of Oaks in Orange County, North Carolina.
Principle Objectives: Provide energy and oversight to the pursuit and maintenance of county/state recognition and federal designation of a rural historic district encompassing the crossroads of Mebane Oaks Road and NC Highway 54 and its surrounding environs**.
Assemble and share resources about rural land character preservation that can help to protect open landscapes including the preservation of properties of cultural and historic significance and to ensure harmonious management of development efforts consistent with the character and historic agricultural purpose of the land and properties of Oaks.
Enhance connectedness in the district through providing a forum for communicating issues pertinent to our community, fostering an attitude of neighborhood sprit and involvement and serving as a coordinating body for information exchange, including establishing relationships with other communities and organizations in Orange County and North Carolina engaged in preservation efforts.
**including but not limited to the Bingham School, Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, house sites and structures in the Lilymont Lane neighborhood and the archeological ruins of the Oaks Post Office and General Store.
